About the CourseThis course is one of only two TPC designated facilities in Las Vegas (the other is TPC Summerlin - Private) and is, in our opinion, one of the most difficult golf courses available in the valley. The TPC at the Canyons annually hosts the Las Vegas Invitational (formerly, Invensys Classic), which is the PGA Tour's only stop in Southern Nevada and the site of Tiger Wood's first victory on tour.Built in 1996 by Bobby Weed with consultation from tour legend Raymond Floyd, the TPC at the Canyons challenges players from the first tee box and does not let up until you reach the 19th hole. It is classic desert golf at its finest, and a must play course for the more discriminating player who does not mind shelling out the $200+ green fee (peak season) in exchange for a challenging round that only a TPC can deliver. For those who have played only a few times or have trouble hitting long and straight, pick another course; as this one will definitely remind you of why only a very select few can play the game for a living. Yes, it is built in the northwest section of Las Vegas (no surprise there) and is surrounded by magnificent homes and landscaping that are both unique to this part of town. The course features long, tight fairways that don't allow too much room for error, and most holes require forced carries over ravines and gullies that constantly remind you that you are playing golf in the desert. For better players who can hit it long and straight, you will find trouble even on your best shots. The TPC is known for punishing players with uneven lies in the fairways and difficult approach shots even when you've hit the ball exactly where you are looking. Upon reaching the perfectly maintained, bent grass greens, you still have your work cut out for you as they run fast and require skill to negotiate the undulations that are prevalent at this course. For those planning on tackling the toughest in town, this course is arguably the one play. Particularly in October, the grounds staff at TPC keeps the course in tournament shape due to the annual PGA event hosted during the month. If you have the opportunity to play the TPC at the Canyons after the tournament (late October or early November), you will find perfect conditions, long rough, and fast greens that will provide a tough (but outstanding) round of golf that TPC courses around the country have become known for. |

Todd Says!Difficult, tough, long, hard, challenging....but simply a wonderful round of golf, the likes of which few courses in Vegas can match. During overseed, consider Paiute Wolf. |
