About the Course

This Rees Jones masterpiece was introduced to Las Vegas in 1997, and essentially sets the standard for quality desert golf courses by which all new tracks in town are measured. Quite simply, if you have one day to play and want to experience a course that defines golf in Las Vegas, this is where you want to go.

Located 15 minutes from the strip, Rio Secco Golf Club has provided top-caliber players with a layout and conditions that are second to none. Also, the course is host of the Butch Harmon school golf, providing what is arguably the best teaching school in the west- if not in the entire country.

Rio Secco is not designed for the beginner or occasional player. The course is one of the most target oriented in Las Vegas- a city that is full of target style courses that require any player to be on top of his or her game to appreciate the intricacies and high level of play. From the back tees, Rio Secco measures 7332 yards and boasts a rating/slope of 75.7/142. Combine this distance with holes that have forced carries often stretching over 200 yards from the tee-box, and you have created a setting that demands long and accurate tee-shots and skill at shaping the ball.

The bent-grass greens at Rio Secco present a challenge equal to that of the most difficult greens at any golf course around, save Augusta National. They are lightning-fast on most days and require the player to really bear down and focus to avoid three putts (or, four putts). You will want to make sure and stop by the practice green prior to teeing off, as putting is the most common source of high scores at Rio Secco.

Now that you have been issued your fair warning, those of you who are better players that demand the finest in service, course conditions, and overall golf experience should add this "must play" course to the list. The facility is world-class and will provide the unforgettable golf experience that won?t soon be forgotten.

Todd Says!

The course gets better every time I play it. If you haven't in some time, it's a must. You can chart your score alongside Tiger's (hole-by-hole) when he set the course record of 64. However, your scorecard won't be that pretty. During overseed, consider Revere.
